Getting Started with TRP
Navigating the Website
The TRP uses standardized materials since currently there are many non-standardized tools and outdated materials. Users can’t be sure which materials are based on evidence and many do not use adult-based educational methods. These are also primarily lectures with minimal interactive and participatory sessions with inappropriate use of role plays, discussions, etc. Materials are also not competency based i.e. they do not address expected knowledge, skills and attitudes of providers.
The TRP incorporates up-to-date technical content and proven training methodologies. The content can be customised to meet needs of specific training audiences using competency based approach and can be used by trainers with different levels of training experience (the guidance for which is provided through the general and method specific facilitator’s guide).
Training Guides
The Training Guides include all materials that can help trainers, program managers and supervisors design, conduct and evaluate family planning training. This section also includes Additional Links to external toolkits and resources.
Training Modules
The Training Modules are divided into 5 categories and can be filtered accordingly. The search bar is also a handy tool to look and locate required modules from the index. Refer to Getting Started with modules to understand the segregation of resources with the modules.
Getting Started with TRP
The Getting Started with TRP allows users to understand the segregation of content across the platform, usability of new features and a one stop overview of what the site holds.
Module
Each module in the TRP is a complete package of learning resources needed to address the learning objectives of the module, including a session plan, PowerPoint presentations, and accompanying activities and resources. The materials, as included in the TRP, provide a comprehensive training experience and can be adapted to address the learning needs of different cadres of health workers.
Module - Specific Facilitator’s Guide
The Module-Specific Facilitator’s Guide provides guidance on how to effectively use the components of that module in the design and delivery of training on that topic.
Learning Objectives
The learning objectives outline what the trainee is expected to be able to do by the end of the training, based on that module.
Module Session Plan
The Session plan provides information to the trainer on the session content, timing, trainer and learner activity instructions for demonstration and practice and materials/resources that the trainer will need to facilitate that session.
Presentation Slides
The PowerPoint presentations include technical information on the topic with basic, advanced, optional slide sets for trainers to use based on learner needs and scope of work. In each module, you may find multiple sets of each type of slide, in order to make downloading of files easier by keeping the size smaller.
Evaluation Tools
Each module contains tools for evaluating the knowledge and skill of trainees. These include pre and post knowledge assessment questionnaires having objective questions, with instructions for scoring the tests and competency-based skills checklists for assessing the acquired skills during and after the training. It also contains the course evaluation tool.
Handouts
Each module has a set of handouts with specific information, key take away messages and job aids to support learning at their workplace. Handouts should be printed and distributed to the learners.

What if I have a question on the module content?
You may post your question on module content in the discussion forum for the community to answer, or you may submit your question to the general TRP email to get an answer from the experts, though this may take longer to receive a response.

The community discussion forum is a place for community members to post queries, discuss modules and resources, share ideas, share how they are using the platform, and share facilitator tips and training techniques. It is a place where family planning peers all over the world can come together for discussion and help with their family planning trainings..

The TRP is structured as a set of tools that can be used by facilitators and curriculum developers to implement high-quality training and education. Its content can be customized to meet the needs of specific training audiences. It will be updated regularly to both incorporate new materials and comply with the latest changes to technical guidance.

Yes! You can share files and resources after you download them, or you can use our share function when you preview a files to share through social media, email, or on other platforms. How can I download resources for offline use?

Do I need a profile to be a community member to get access to the TRP or resources on the website?
No, all modules resources are available for download to anyone. You do need to become a community member to save any resources to your own profile, comment in the community discussion board or add a discussion thread, and view other community member profiles. Joining our community is free and easy to sign up, all you need is an email address!

The TRP was developed using evidence-based technical information from World Health Organization (WHO) publications: Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers; the latest WHO Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use; and Selected Practice Recommendations for Contraceptive Use (SPR Web Annexure). The development of the TRP has been by led by USAID, WHO, and UNFPA, with full participation from technical and training experts representing multiple agencies and organizations.
